Ingredients
Scale
Hot Dogs
- 2 pounds beef hot dogs (about 16 hot dogs)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
Sauce
- 1/2 cup barbecue sauce
- 3 tablespoons honey
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons hot sauce (adjust to taste)
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
Garnish (Optional)
- Sliced green onions
- Sesame seeds
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare the Baking Sheet: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with foil and lightly coat it with nonstick spray to prevent sticking.
- Cut and Toss Hot Dogs: Cut the hot dogs into 1 1/2-inch pieces. Toss them thoroughly in olive oil to lightly coat each piece, which helps in caramelization and flavor absorption.
- Bake Hot Dogs Set 1: Spread the oiled hot dog pieces evenly on the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 20 minutes, turning them halfway through to ensure even caramelization and browning of the edges.
- Prepare the Sauce: While the hot dogs bake, whisk together the barbecue sauce, honey, brown sugar, hot sauce, smoked paprika, garlic powder, and cayenne pepper in a medium bowl until smooth and well combined.
- Coat Hot Dogs with Sauce: Remove the hot dogs from the oven and transfer them to a large baking dish. Pour the prepared sauce over the hot dogs and stir gently to coat all pieces well.
- Bake Hot Dogs Set 2: Return the baking dish to the oven, leaving it uncovered. Bake for an additional 20 minutes, stirring once halfway through, until the sauce becomes sticky and thickened around the hot dogs.
- Garnish and Serve: Remove from the oven and garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds if desired. Serve hot as a flavorful appetizer or game-day snack, ideally with toothpicks for easy sharing.
Notes
- For a smokier flavor, add a splash of liquid smoke to the barbecue sauce before coating the hot dogs.
- These burnt ends can also be made on the grill using a cast-iron skillet to achieve extra charring and smokiness.
- Serve with toothpicks for convenient, bite-sized snacking.
