Ingredients
Scale
Meat and Marinade
- 1 pound flank steak
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
Vegetables and Cheese
- 1 red bell pepper, sliced
- 1 green bell pepper, sliced
- 1 large onion, sliced
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
Other Ingredients
- 4 large flour tortillas
- 2 cups frozen French fries
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 tablespoon sour cream
- 1 tablespoon fresh cilantro, chopped
Instructions
- Bake the French Fries: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Spread the frozen French fries evenly on a baking sheet. Bake for 20-25 minutes until crispy and golden. Remove from oven and set aside.
- Marinate the Steak: Rub the flank steak with olive oil, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Let it marinate for at least 10 minutes to absorb the flavors.
- Sear the Steak: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the marinated flank steak and sear for 3-4 minutes on each side or until it reaches your preferred doneness. Remove from heat and allow it to rest for a few minutes, then slice thinly against the grain.
- Sauté the Vegetables: In the same skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add sliced onions and bell peppers and sauté until they are soft and slightly caramelized, about 6-8 minutes.
- Warm the Tortillas: Heat the flour tortillas in a dry skillet or microwave just long enough to make them soft and pliable for wrapping.
- Assemble the Burritos: Lay each tortilla flat. Place a few slices of steak in the center, then add a portion of baked French fries, caramelized onions, and bell peppers. Generously sprinkle cheddar and mozzarella cheese over all the fillings.
- Fold and Roll: Fold the sides of the tortilla over the filling, then roll tightly to enclose everything and form a burrito.
- Heat Burritos to Melt Cheese: Place the burritos seam-side down on a skillet over medium heat or on a baking sheet in an oven preheated to 350°F (175°C). Heat for 5-10 minutes until the cheese melts inside and the burrito is warm throughout.
- Serve: Serve the burritos hot, topped with a dollop of sour cream and a sprinkle of fresh chopped cilantro.
Notes
- You can substitute the flank steak with skirt steak or sirloin for similar results.
- For crispier fries, bake them separately shortly before assembling to keep their texture inside the burritos.
- If you prefer, you can use corn tortillas, but flour tortillas are easier to roll and hold fillings better.
- Adding some hot sauce or jalapeños can give the burrito a spicy kick.
- Leftover burritos can be wrapped in foil and reheated in the oven to retain crispness.
