Ingredients
Scale
For the Sandwich
- 4 slices whole grain or sourdough bread, toasted
- 4 ounces cold-smoked salmon
- 4 tablespoons cream cheese, softened
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon chopped fresh dill
- ½ avocado, thinly sliced
- ½ small red onion, thinly sliced
- ½ cup arugula or baby spinach
- Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Prepare the Cream Cheese Spread: In a small bowl, mix the softened cream cheese with lemon juice and chopped fresh dill until the mixture is smooth and spreadable.
- Toast the Bread: Toast the bread slices until they are golden brown and slightly crisp, which adds a pleasant crunch to the sandwich.
- Spread the Cream Cheese Mixture: Generously spread the dill cream cheese mixture evenly over each slice of toasted bread.
- Assemble the Sandwich: On two of the bread slices, layer the smoked salmon, thin slices of avocado, red onion, and arugula or baby spinach to build flavor and freshness.
- Season and Close: Sprinkle freshly ground black pepper over the vegetables and salmon for a little added spice. Place the remaining bread slices on top to form the sandwiches.
- Serve: Slice the sandwiches in half diagonally and serve immediately for the best taste and texture.
Notes
- For added texture and flavor, try including sliced cucumber or capers in the sandwich.
- You can use a bagel or baguette instead of bread for a different bread base.
- To reduce calories, substitute regular cream cheese with low-fat cream cheese or use Greek yogurt spread.
