Description

These Shrimp and Grits Bites are a delightful twist on the classic Southern dish, perfect for serving as appetizers at parties or gatherings. Creamy stone-ground grits form the base for succulent sautéed shrimp, creating a flavorful and elegant bite-sized treat.

Ingredients

Scale

Grit Bases:

  • 1 cup stone-ground grits
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Shrimp Topping:

  • 1/2 pound shrimp (peeled, deveined, tails removed)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • Chopped fresh chives for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare Grit Bases: Boil water with salt, whisk in grits, simmer until thick. Stir in cheese, butter, and pepper. Spoon into muffin pan cups, chill.
  2. Cook Shrimp: Toss shrimp with oil, paprika, cayenne, and garlic. Sauté until cooked through.
  3. Assemble: Place a cooked shrimp on each grit base. Bake until heated through. Garnish with chives.

Notes

  • You can make the grit bases ahead and refrigerate.
  • Top with remoulade or aioli for added flavor.
