For the meatballs:
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1/3 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
For the sauce:
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 large yellow onions (thinly sliced)
- 2 cloves garlic (minced)
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup dry white wine (optional)
- 1 1/2 cups beef broth
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon fresh thyme (or 1/4 teaspoon dried)
- 1 cup shredded Gruyère cheese (or Swiss)
For serving:
- 8 oz egg noodles
- fresh parsley (chopped, for garnish)
Instructions
- For the meatballs: In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan, egg, Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Form into 1-inch meatballs and cook in batches until browned. Set aside.
- For the sauce: Cook onions in butter until caramelized. Add garlic, then flour. Pour in wine, broth, Worcestershire sauce, and thyme. Simmer, then return meatballs to the skillet and cook until done. Top with cheese.
- For serving: Cook egg noodles, drain, and serve with meatballs, sauce, and parsley.
Notes
- For a shortcut, use frozen pre-cooked meatballs and skip directly to making the sauce.
- Swap white wine with extra broth if preferred.
