Description

Philly Steak Cheese Fries combine crispy baked French fries topped with savory sautéed ribeye steak, onions, and bell peppers, all smothered in melted provolone and mozzarella cheese for a deliciously indulgent appetizer or game day snack.

Ingredients

Scale

Fries

  • 1 (26 oz) bag frozen French fries

Steak and vegetables

  • 1 lb thinly sliced ribeye or sirloin steak
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 small onion, sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced

Cheese

  • 1 cup shredded provolone cheese
  • ½ cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Seasonings and optional

  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Optional: cheese sauce or sliced mushrooms for topping

Instructions

  1. Bake the fries: Preheat the oven and bake the frozen French fries according to the package directions until they are golden and crispy, typically about 20-25 minutes.
  2. Sauté vegetables: Meanwhile, heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the sliced onions and green bell peppers and sauté for 4–5 minutes until they soften and become fragrant.
  3. Cook the steak: Push the vegetables to one side of the skillet. Add the thinly sliced ribeye or sirloin steak to the pan. Cook for 3–4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the steak is browned and cooked to your preferred doneness. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
  4. Assemble the dish: Once the fries are baked, transfer them to an oven-safe platter or baking sheet. Evenly spread the steak and vegetable mixture over the fries.
  5. Add cheese and melt: Sprinkle the shredded provolone and mozzarella cheese evenly on top of the fries and steak. Place the platter back in the oven at 375°F (190°C) and bake for 5–7 minutes until the cheese has melted and is bubbly.
  6. Serve and garnish: Remove from the oven and serve hot. Optionally, drizzle with cheese sauce or garnish with sautéed mushrooms to elevate the flavors.

Notes

  • For extra indulgence, serve with a side of ranch dressing or garlic aioli for dipping.
  • Try swapping in waffle fries or curly fries for a fun twist on texture and presentation.
  • Use cheese whiz instead of shredded cheese to create a more authentic Philly cheese steak flavor.
  • To make this dish gluten-free, ensure you use gluten-free French fries and check all seasoning ingredients.
