Ingredients
Scale
Potatoes
- 4 large russet potatoes, peeled and cut into 1-inch cubes
Dairy & Seasonings
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1/4 cup whole milk
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Toppings (Optional)
- 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- Chopped fresh parsley, for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with non-stick spray or butter to prevent sticking.
- Boil Potatoes: Place the peeled and cubed potatoes in a large pot, cover with water, and bring to a boil. Cook until tender, about 15-20 minutes, then drain well to remove the water.
- Mash Potatoes: Transfer the drained potatoes to a large bowl and mash them with a potato masher until smooth and creamy, ensuring no lumps remain.
- Mix Ingredients: Stir in the melted butter, sour cream, whole milk, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix thoroughly until the potatoes are well combined and creamy.
- Prepare for Baking: Transfer the mashed potato mixture into the prepared baking dish and smooth the top evenly with a spatula.
- Add Cheese (Optional): Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top of the potatoes if using, for a cheesy crust.
- Bake: Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the top is slightly golden and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Garnish and Serve: Remove from the oven, garnish with chopped fresh parsley if desired, and serve immediately for the best flavor and texture.
Notes
- You can substitute sour cream with Greek yogurt for a tangier flavor and added protein.
- If you prefer a lighter dish, use reduced-fat milk and butter.
- Adding shredded cheese is optional but adds a delicious golden crust and extra flavor.
- Ensure potatoes are well drained after boiling to avoid watery mash.
- Fresh parsley adds a nice color contrast and fresh taste, but can be omitted if unavailable.
