Description
A comforting and flavorful slow cooker recipe featuring thinly sliced potatoes seasoned with Lipton Onion Soup mix, melted butter, and optional cheddar cheese. This easy dish cooks low and slow to tender perfection, making it a perfect side for any meal.
Ingredients
Scale
Potatoes
- 6 large potatoes, thinly sliced (peeled if desired)
Seasoning & Liquids
- 1 packet Lipton Onion Soup mix
- 1/3 cup butter, melted
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional, but highly recommended!)
- 1/2 cup chicken broth or water
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Cooking spray or butter, for greasing
Instructions
- Prep Your Slow Cooker: Generously grease the inside of your slow cooker with cooking spray or butter to prevent the potatoes from sticking during the cooking process.
- Prepare Potatoes: Wash and peel the potatoes if you prefer, then slice them thinly and evenly to ensure consistent cooking throughout.
- Season the Potatoes: In a large bowl, toss the sliced potatoes with the melted butter until they’re evenly coated. Add the Lipton Onion Soup mix and mix thoroughly to distribute the flavors. For an extra creamy and indulgent touch, stir in the shredded cheddar cheese at this stage.
- Layer & Add Liquid: Transfer the seasoned potatoes into the slow cooker, spreading them out evenly. Pour the chicken broth or water evenly over the potatoes to add moisture, helping them steam and absorb flavor as they cook.
- Cook on Low: Cover and cook on the low setting for 5 to 6 hours. This slow cooking allows the potatoes to become tender and full of flavor.
- Cook on High (Optional): Alternatively, cook on high for 2 to 3 hours if you are short on time, checking for doneness with a fork.
- Finish & Serve: Once the potatoes are fork-tender, taste and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper as needed. Serve hot as a delightful side dish.
Notes
- Peeling potatoes is optional; leaving the skins on adds additional texture and nutrients.
- Use chicken broth for a richer flavor or water for a lighter dish.
- Cheddar cheese is optional but recommended for added richness and a cheesy twist.
- Ensure potatoes are sliced evenly for consistent cooking results.
- This recipe can be doubled for larger gatherings but may require adjusting cooking time.
- Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days and reheated in the microwave or oven.
