Ingredients
Scale
Filling
- 1 cup sweetened condensed milk
- 1 teaspoon pure peppermint extract
- 2 cups powdered sugar
Coating
- 8 ounces dark or semi-sweet chocolate
- 1 tablespoon coconut oil or shortening
- sprinkles (optional, for decoration)
Instructions
- Prepare the filling: In a medium bowl, combine the sweetened condensed milk and pure peppermint extract. Gradually add the powdered sugar, mixing thoroughly until the mixture becomes firm and pliable enough to form into shapes.
- Shape the patties: Once the filling is ready, shape it into small, round patties about 1 to 1.5 inches in diameter. Place the patties on a parchment-lined baking sheet and refrigerate for about 30 minutes to firm up.
- Melt the chocolate coating: In a microwave-safe bowl or using a double boiler, melt the dark or semi-sweet chocolate along with the coconut oil or shortening, stirring until smooth and glossy.
- Dip the patties: Using a fork or dipping tool, coat each chilled patty fully in the melted chocolate. Place the dipped patties back on the parchment-lined sheet.
- Add sprinkles and chill: While the chocolate is still wet, sprinkle your festive decorations over the patties if desired. Refrigerate the patties until the chocolate is set, about 15 to 20 minutes.
- Serve and store: Once set, serve the patties immediately or store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
Notes
- Use good-quality chocolate for the best flavor and smooth coating.
- If the chocolate coating is too thick, add an extra teaspoon of coconut oil to thin it out.
- Make sure the patties are well chilled before dipping to avoid melting the chocolate from contact.
- For a stronger peppermint flavor, add an additional 1/2 teaspoon of peppermint extract.
- These patties can be stored in the freezer for longer preservation.
