Description

Indulge in the sweet and fruity goodness of these homemade blueberry sweet rolls. Soft, fluffy dough filled with a luscious blueberry compote and topped with a creamy cream cheese glaze.

Ingredients

Scale

For the dough:

  • 3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 large egg

For the blueberry filling:

  • 2 cups fresh or frozen blueberries
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the cream cheese glaze:

  • 4 oz cream cheese (softened)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Prepare the dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of flour, yeast, sugar, and salt. In a small saucepan, heat milk, butter, and water until warm (about 110°F). Add to the dry ingredients and mix until smooth. Beat in the egg, then gradually add the remaining flour until a soft dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  2. Make the blueberry filling: In a saucepan over medium heat, combine blueberries, sugar, lemon juice, and cornstarch. Stir and cook until thickened, about 5–7 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla. Let cool.
  3. Assemble the rolls: Punch down the dough and roll it into a 10×15-inch rectangle. Spread the cooled blueberry filling evenly over the dough. Starting from the long edge, roll up tightly and slice into 12 rolls. Place rolls in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish, cover, and let rise again for 30–45 minutes.
  4. Bake and glaze: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 25–30 minutes, or until golden brown. To make the glaze, beat together cream cheese, powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth. Drizzle over warm rolls and serve.

Notes

  • For overnight prep, refrigerate the rolls after the second rise and bake in the morning.
  • Add lemon zest to the glaze for extra brightness.
