Ingredients
Scale
Dough
- 1 cup self-rising flour (or 1 cup all-purpose flour + 1½ tsp baking powder + ¼ tsp salt)
- 1 cup plain Greek yogurt (non-fat or full-fat)
Toppings
- Shredded cheese (amount as desired)
- Chopped ham (amount as desired)
- Smoked salmon (amount as desired)
- Everything bagel seasoning (to sprinkle)
- Egg wash (1 egg, beaten)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure even baking.
- Mix Dough: In a mixing bowl, combine the flour and Greek yogurt, stirring until a dough begins to form and no dry flour remains.
- Knead Dough: Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead it for 1–2 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
- Shape Bagels: Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces, roll each piece into a ball, then use your finger to poke a hole through the center to create a mini bagel shape.
- Prepare for Baking: Arrange the bagel bites on the prepared baking sheet. Brush the tops with the beaten egg wash to help with browning and to help toppings stick, then sprinkle everything bagel seasoning on top as desired.
- Bake: Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake for 20–25 minutes or until the bagel bites turn golden brown and firm to the touch.
- Cool and Add Toppings: Let the bagel bites cool slightly after baking. Add shredded cheese, chopped ham, or smoked salmon just before serving for the best texture and flavor.
- Freezing Instructions: To freeze, store the plain baked bagels in a sealed container or freezer bag. Reheat them before adding toppings to keep them fresh and flavorful.
Notes
- You can substitute self-rising flour with all-purpose flour by adding baking powder and salt as specified.
- Use either non-fat or full-fat Greek yogurt depending on your preference and desired richness.
- Feel free to customize the toppings according to your taste or dietary needs.
- Brush the bagels with egg wash for a shiny, golden crust, but you can omit it for a vegan version by using plant-based milk or simply water.
- These bagel bites are best eaten fresh but freeze well without toppings.
- Adjust baking time slightly if bagels are larger or smaller than the suggested size.
