Ingredients
Scale
Meat and Seasoning
- 1/2 lb ground beef
- 1/2 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
Sandwich Ingredients
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or your favorite cheese)
- 4 slices of bread (thick-cut or your favorite type)
- 2 tablespoons butter, softened
Optional Toppings
- Pickles
- Jalapeños
- Sautéed mushrooms
Instructions
- Cook the Ground Beef: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned, breaking it up as it cooks. Drain any excess fat. Add the finely chopped onion, garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Cook for another 3-4 minutes until the onion softens. Remove from heat and set aside.
- Assemble the Sandwich: Butter one side of each slice of bread. On the unbuttered side of two slices, sprinkle a layer of shredded cheese, then spoon some of the cooked ground beef on top. Add another layer of shredded cheese, then place the remaining two slices of bread on top with the buttered side facing out.
- Grill the Sandwich: Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat. Place the sandwiches in the skillet and cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until the bread is golden brown and crispy, and the cheese is melted.
- Serve: Once the sandwiches are golden and the cheese is gooey, remove from heat. Slice in half and serve hot. Add pickles, jalapeños, or sautéed mushrooms for extra flavor if desired.
Notes
- You can use different types of cheese such as American, mozzarella, or pepper jack to vary the flavor.
- Make sure the skillet is at medium heat to avoid burning the bread while allowing the cheese to melt properly.
- Drain excess fat from the cooked beef to keep the sandwich from becoming greasy.
- Optional toppings like pickles or jalapeños add a nice contrast to the richness of the beef and cheese.
- For a crispier sandwich, press down gently with a spatula while cooking.
