Ingredients
Scale
Rice and Broth
- 1 cup long-grain white rice
- 2 cups water or low-sodium chicken broth
Seasonings and Aromatics
- 1 tablespoon olive oil or butter
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Garnish
- Chopped fresh parsley or cilantro (optional)
Instructions
- Heat oil and sauté garlic: In a medium saucepan, warm the olive oil or butter over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for 1–2 minutes until fragrant but not browned, allowing the garlic to infuse the oil with flavor.
- Add spices and rice: Stir in the ground turmeric, salt, and black pepper. Then add the rice to the saucepan and toast it for another 1–2 minutes, stirring constantly to evenly coat the rice with spices and enhance its aroma.
- Cook rice with liquid: Pour in the water or low-sodium chicken broth and bring the mixture to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the pan with a lid, and let it simmer gently for 15–18 minutes until the rice is tender and all the liquid has been absorbed.
- Rest and fluff: Remove the saucepan from heat and keep it covered for an additional 5 minutes to allow the rice to steam and fully absorb flavors. Then fluff the rice gently with a fork to separate the grains.
- Garnish and serve: Optionally, sprinkle chopped fresh parsley or cilantro over the rice before serving for a fresh, herbal finish and added color.
Notes
- For extra flavor, substitute broth for water when cooking the rice.
- This rice pairs beautifully with grilled meats, flavorful curries, or roasted vegetables.
- You can use aromatic rice varieties like basmati or jasmine for added fragrance.
