Ingredients
Scale
Burger Patties
- 2 lbs ground beef (preferably 80/20 fat content – not too lean)
- 2 large cloves garlic (pressed or minced)
- 2 1/2 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1/4 cup fresh parsley (finely chopped)
- 1/4 tsp salt
- Pinch of black pepper
Burger Assembly
- 6 burger buns
- 6 slices Swiss cheese
- 6 green leaf lettuce leaves
- 1 large tomato (sliced)
- 8 oz sautéed mushrooms (cooked in a little oil with salt & pepper)
- 1/2 cup freshly sliced or caramelized onions
- Ketchup and mayo (to serve)
Instructions
- Preheat and mix ingredients: Preheat your grill to medium/high heat. In a large bowl, combine 2 lbs of ground beef, minced garlic cloves, Worcestershire sauce, finely chopped parsley, salt, and a pinch of black pepper.
- Mix thoroughly: Mix the beef mixture thoroughly using your hands or a stand mixer with a paddle attachment to ensure even distribution of ingredients.
- Form patties: Divide the mixture into 6 equal portions and shape each into a round patty about 5 1/2 inches in diameter and weighing approximately 5 1/2 ounces. Create a slight well in the center of each patty by pushing your fingers around the middle; this helps the burger cook evenly without puffing up.
- Grill the burgers: Place the patties on the preheated grill and cook for 6 minutes on one side with the grill closed. After 3 minutes, rotate the patties 45 degrees to create crosshatch grill marks. Flip and cook for another 6 minutes on the other side for medium-well doneness. In the last minute of grilling, top each patty with a slice of Swiss cheese to melt.
- Assemble the burgers: Once the patties are cooked, place each on a burger bun. Add green leaf lettuce, sliced tomato, sautéed mushrooms, caramelized onions, and your choice of ketchup and mayo to complete the burger.
Notes
- For juicier burgers, avoid pressing down on the patties while grilling to retain moisture.
- The slight well in the patty center helps prevent the burger from puffing and ensures even cooking.
- Use fresh herbs and freshly minced garlic for the best flavor.
- Adjust cook times for different doneness preferences.
- Sauté mushrooms with a little oil and seasoning before adding to burgers for richer taste.
