Scale
Dry Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
Wet Ingredients
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon melted butter
For Frying and Finishing
- Vegetable oil for frying (about 2 inches deep)
- 1/4 cup honey for drizzling
- Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, granulated sugar, and cinnamon until evenly combined.
- Mix Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk the large egg, milk, vanilla extract, and melted butter together until smooth and well combined.
- Combine Batter: Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir gently just until combined. Be careful not to overmix to keep the batter light and fluffy.
- Heat Oil: Pour about 2 inches of vegetable oil into a deep skillet or saucepan and heat over medium heat until the oil reaches 350°F (175°C).
- Fry Fritters: Carefully drop spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry each fritter for 2 to 3 minutes per side, or until they turn golden brown and are cooked through.
- Drain and Cool: Use a slotted spoon to remove the fritters from the oil and transfer them to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- Serve: While still warm, drizzle the fritters generously with honey and dust with powdered sugar if desired. Serve immediately for best taste and texture.
Notes
- For extra flavor and texture, fold in a small handful of chopped apples, bananas, or raisins into the batter before frying.
- You can substitute maple syrup for honey if preferred for drizzling.
