Ingredients
Scale
French Toast Mixture
- 6 slices thick-cut brioche or Texas toast
- 3 large eggs
- 1/2 cup whole milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- Pinch of salt
Churro Coating
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Cooking and Serving
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
- Optional: maple syrup or chocolate sauce for dipping
Instructions
- Cut Bread into Hearts: Use a small heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut out hearts from each slice of bread, aiming to get 2–3 shapes per slice depending on size.
- Prepare Egg Mixture: In a shallow bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, vanilla extract, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, and a pinch of salt until well combined.
- Mix Cinnamon Sugar Coating: In another shallow dish, combine the granulated sugar and 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon to create the churro coating.
- Heat Skillet and Butter: Place a large nonstick skillet over medium heat and melt the unsalted butter until foamy and heated through.
- Dip and Cook Bites: Dip each heart-shaped bread piece into the egg mixture, allowing any excess to drip off, then place it in the hot skillet. Cook each side for 2–3 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
- Coat in Cinnamon Sugar: Immediately toss the warm French toast bites in the cinnamon sugar mixture to evenly coat them while still warm.
- Repeat Process: Continue dipping, cooking, and coating the remaining bread hearts in batches, adding more butter to the skillet as needed.
- Serve Warm: Serve the French toast churro bites warm with optional maple syrup or chocolate sauce for dipping.
Notes
- Best served fresh for optimal texture and flavor.
- You can keep the cooked bites warm in a low oven until ready to serve.
- For extra crunch, toast the cut-out bread hearts in the oven for 5 minutes before dipping them in the egg mixture.
