Description

Crab Crunchies are a delightful appetizer featuring a crispy outer shell filled with a savory mixture of lump crab meat, cream cheese, and seasonings. These bite-sized treats are perfect for parties or as a special snack.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients:

  • 1 cup lump crab meat (picked over for shells)
  • 1/2 cup cream cheese (softened)
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1 green onion (finely chopped)
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon Old Bay seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese

Additional Ingredients:

  • 12 small wonton wrappers or mini phyllo shells
  • Cooking spray or melted butter for brushing
  • Sweet chili sauce or soy sauce for dipping (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Mix the filling: In a mixing bowl, combine crab meat, cream cheese, mayonnaise, green onion, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, Old Bay seasoning, salt, pepper, and shredded cheese. Stir well.
  3. Prepare the wrappers: If using wonton wrappers, press each into a greased mini muffin tin. If using phyllo shells, place them on a baking sheet.
  4. Fill the wrappers: Spoon about 1 tablespoon of the crab mixture into each wrapper or shell.
  5. Bake: Lightly spray or brush the tops with cooking spray or butter. Bake for 12–15 minutes until golden and bubbly.
  6. Serve: Let cool slightly before serving. Enjoy with sweet chili sauce or soy sauce if desired.

Notes

  • You can substitute imitation crab for a more budget-friendly version.
  • Add a dash of hot sauce to the filling for a spicy kick.
  • These can be made in advance and reheated in the oven until crisp.
