Caramel Apple Bars:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups old-fashioned oats
- 3/4 cup packed light brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
Apple Filling:
- 2 cups peeled and chopped apples (such as Granny Smith)
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
Additional:
- 1/2 cup jarred or homemade caramel sauce, plus extra for drizzling
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9×13-inch baking dish with parchment paper.
- Mix the crust: In a large bowl, combine flour, oats, brown sugar, baking soda, and salt. Stir in melted butter until crumbly. Press two-thirds of the mixture into the pan for the crust.
- Prepare the apples: Toss chopped apples with cinnamon and flour. Spread over the crust.
- Add caramel and nuts: Drizzle caramel sauce over apples, sprinkle with nuts if desired. Crumble remaining oat mixture on top.
- Bake: Bake for 30-35 minutes until golden and apples are tender.
- Cool and serve: Cool in the pan before slicing. Drizzle with extra caramel before serving.
Notes
- For cleaner slices, refrigerate bars for 1 hour after cooling.
- Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or in the fridge for up to 5 days.
