Description

Delight in these homemade Blueberry Cinnamon Rolls, featuring a soft, fluffy dough swirled with a cinnamon-sugar filling and bursting with fresh blueberries. Perfect for breakfast or brunch, these rolls combine classic cinnamon roll flavors with the juicy sweetness of blueberries for a unique and comforting treat.

Ingredients

Scale

Dough Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons instant yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup warm whole milk
  • 1/2 cup melted unsalted butter
  • 2 large eggs

Filling Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup fresh blueberries

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, granulated sugar, instant yeast, and salt. In a separate bowl, whisk together the warm milk, melted butter, and eggs. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry, stirring until combined into a dough.
  2. Knead and First Rise: Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.
  3. Prepare the Filling: In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar and ground cinnamon thoroughly to create the cinnamon-sugar filling.
  4. Roll and Assemble: Roll out the risen dough into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick. Brush the surface with melted butter, then evenly sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture over the dough. Scatter the fresh blueberries across the top.
  5. Form the Rolls: Starting from one edge, tightly roll the dough into a log. Slice the log into 12 rolls about 1 to 2 inches thick each.
  6. Second Rise: Place the rolls on a lined baking sheet, spaced evenly apart, and allow them to rise for an additional 30 minutes until puffy.
  7. Bake: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 25-30 minutes or until they are golden brown on top and cooked through.

Notes

  • The dough should be slightly warm and not hot when mixing with yeast to prevent killing the yeast.
  • Make sure to cover the dough during rises to avoid drying out the surface.
  • Fresh blueberries give the best flavor and texture; if using frozen, thaw and drain excess moisture first.
  • For an extra touch, top with cream cheese glaze after baking once cooled.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or freeze for longer storage.
