Description

This Blackberry Balsamic and Brie Grilled Cheese sandwich offers a deliciously sophisticated twist on a classic comfort food. Combining creamy brie cheese with a tangy-sweet blackberry and balsamic glaze spread, this sandwich is grilled to golden perfection, delivering a perfect balance of fruity and savory flavors. Ideal for a quick lunch or light dinner, it’s both elegant and easy to make.

Ingredients

Scale

Bread and Cheese

  • 4 slices sourdough or artisan bread
  • 4 oz brie cheese, sliced and rind removed if preferred

Spread

  • 1/2 cup fresh blackberries
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic glaze or balsamic reduction
  • 1 teaspoon honey (optional)
  • A pinch of salt

For Cooking

  • 1 tablespoon butter, softened

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Blackberry Mixture: Lightly mash the fresh blackberries in a small bowl using a fork until slightly crushed but still somewhat chunky. Stir in the balsamic glaze and honey, if using, and add a pinch of salt to enhance the flavors.
  2. Assemble the Sandwiches: Evenly spread the blackberry and balsamic mixture onto two slices of bread. Layer the sliced brie cheese over the spread, then top each sandwich with the remaining bread slices to form two sandwiches.
  3. Butter and Heat: Butter the outsides of both sandwiches generously with the softened butter. Preheat a skillet over medium heat.
  4. Grill the Sandwiches: Place the sandwiches in the heated skillet. Cook for 3 to 4 minutes on each side, pressing gently with a spatula, until the bread is golden brown and the brie cheese has melted.
  5. Serve Warm: Remove the sandwiches from the skillet, slice them in half, and serve immediately while warm and gooey.

Notes

  • For an extra layer of flavor, add fresh basil leaves or a handful of arugula inside the sandwich before grilling.
  • Try swapping brie with goat cheese or cream cheese for a different taste and texture.
