Description

These Apple Fritter Bites are bite-sized, deep-fried dough pieces filled with cinnamon-spiced diced apples, coated with a sweet glaze. Crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, they make a perfect bite-sized treat for breakfast or dessert.

Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Wet Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup whole milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, melted

Fruit

  • 1 medium apple, peeled, cored, and finely diced

For Frying and Glaze

  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon milk

Instructions

  1. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, salt, ground cinnamon, and ground nutmeg until fully combined.
  2. Combine Wet Ingredients: In another bowl, whisk together the whole milk, egg, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  3. Add Melted Butter: Stir the melted unsalted butter into the milk and egg mixture to incorporate.
  4. Make Batter: Gradually pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, gently stirring until just combined to prevent overmixing.
  5. Fold in Apples: Gently fold the finely diced apple pieces into the batter, ensuring even distribution without overmixing.
  6. Heat Oil: Heat vegetable oil in a large, heavy-bottomed pot or deep skillet over medium heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C), enough for deep frying.
  7. Fry Fritter Bites: Carefully drop spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil without overcrowding, and fry for 2 to 3 minutes on each side until golden brown and cooked through.
  8. Drain Excess Oil: Remove fritter bites with a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  9. Prepare Glaze: Whisk powdered sugar and milk in a small bowl until smooth and of a drizzling consistency.
  10. Glaze Fritter Bites: Drizzle the glaze over the warm fritter bites evenly to coat each piece.
  11. Cool and Serve: Allow the fritter bites to cool slightly before serving and enjoy their warm, sweet, and crispy goodness.

Notes

  • Use medium-sized apples like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp for the best balance of tartness and sweetness.
  • Make sure the oil temperature stays consistent at 350°F to ensure fritters cook evenly without absorbing too much oil.
  • Do not overcrowd the pan while frying to maintain oil temperature and prevent soggy fritters.
  • The glaze can be adjusted with additional milk or powdered sugar to achieve your preferred consistency.
  • Serve fritters warm for the best taste and texture.
